post op day: 28

W ell, it's been four weeks since I got my hip fixed! I am very excited about the progress I have made over the past couple of weeks. I am up to 20 minutes on the upright bike, twice per day and have about 18 physio exercises that keep me busy for hours (basically a full time job). Pool therapy has done wonders for me. I am hoping to get rid of my crutches (or at least one of them) in two weeks, as well as get rid of my brace.  The past couple weeks have been challenging, as the exercises make me sore and well, getting around on crutches gets super frustrating after a month. However, I remain positive and know that this will all be worth the end result: NO HIP PAIN :) pool therapy is the best- not only physically, but mentally it has helped me so much! i love all my pool buddies, it's great to be able to chat with others who are going through similar types of rehab.

T wo weeks post op! I can't believe it's been two weeks already. I finally got my staples out and had post op x-rays and follow up with my surgeon. The best news is that I finally get to ditch the cold therapy machine that I've been connected to for the past 2 weeks (mom is equally as excited to stop making and buying ice and refilling the machine at 3am).  Tomorrow I get to start pool therapy. I am very excited, as I have heard it is very, very good for the joints. I know I still have months of rehab to go, but every day is a step in the right direction.  finally get to ditch this cold therapy machine :)

post op day: 7

O ne week post op! A week ago today I was walking into the OR at Scotia Surgery among some of the most fabulous doctors and nurses I ave ever met. I have had a lot of ups and owns over the past week, but I know that my surgery went well and that this is a long recovery.  I have been hitting new milestones each day and am now up to 20 minutes on the upright bike each day. I am so thankful that I have a little gym in my apartment building, with an upright bike. It is so easy to get to and it is always so quiet.  My mom is staying with me & is an amazing nurse. She is on top of everything and makes sure I get my exercises done, cooks me healthy meals and comes to the gym with me. She also refills my cold therapy machine about every 4-6 hours, which helps keeps pain and swelling down. I am so grateful for my amazing support system.  I haven't gone out too much, as I still feel pretty gross and get light headed if I stand for too long. My big outings are my physiot...

post op day: 2

W ow! Here we are, two days post op.  My surgery went very well. The staff at Scotia Surgery were fantastic! I feel so lucky that I was able to go to Scotia Surgery to have my hip arthroscopy. I had 1:1 nursing care from pre op to PACU. At one point I think I actually had 2 nurses and I was the only patient in PACU. They did 3 cases, and I was the last case, so everyone else was gone by the time I went to PACU.  Waking up from surgery was rough. I had no idea what to expect, as this was my first surgery ever. The first words I heard were, "her blood pressure is 75/50, keep the fluids running", haha. In my sleepy state, I remember trying to tell the nurse that my BP usually runs low, but not quite that low. When I first woke up, my foot hurt more than my hip. This was from the way I was positioned in the OR. After they got my blood pressure and pain under control, the nurses helped me get my brace on, and get dressed ( I already had m y compression socks on from pre-op) . ...

today is the day i have my hip arthroscopy

H ere we are. A year after I went to see Dr. Wong, I am going to Scotia Surgery to get my hip fixed. I've been anticipating this day for a long time. Many times it felt like this day would never come. I am nervous, scared and excited all at the same time - oh and pretty hungry too, haha! I am so looking forward to getting rid of this daily pain and being able to run again. I know that recovery from this surgery won't be easy, but it will be worth it in the long run. Here we go!
